Write Cause or Effect

In this activity students will categorize words based on their meaning. To modify this activity the teacher can create the categories along with the vocabulary words.

This activity engages students in evaluating authors’ purpose. Students sort passages into three categories of author’s purpose: persuade, inform, and entertain.

This strategy provides a structure that encourages all students to practice listening and speaking during rich discussion of a text.
