During this activity students will listen to a portion of the text and draw a question card. Students will generate a question based on the question word on the card and the portion of the text they have heard. Another student will use the knowledge from the text to answer the question. This activity can be modified so students are listening to the text.
The Three Levels of Questions instructional strategy can support practitioners in providing students with an opportunity to engage with a text in increasingly complex ways.
This resource requires the following modification to explicitly target listening comprehension: shift the burden of decoding/encoding onto the educator (i.e., the educator should read/write instead of the student(s)).
