What is it?

In this activity students will listen to an expository text and identify the main idea and three supporting details on a text wheel. This activity can be modified so students are only engaging with oral text responding through discussion.

Similar Listening Comprehension Resources

During this activity, students brainstorm what they know about a given topic. After engaging with text, they revisit their brainstorm and identify words, ideas, etc. that were used in the text.

  • shift the burden of decoding/encoding onto the educator (i.e., the educator should read/write instead of the student(s)).
  • shift the avenue of critical thinking from writing to discussion (i.e., instead of students writing they should discuss).
