This resource is a framework for teaching perspective taking through narrative texts using a story map and explicit instruction of mental state vocabulary. Students identify key points in the story and discuss characters’ thoughts and feelings throughout the narrative.
This resource includes information on how to use think-alouds as an instructional strategy, as well as a planning guide to support practitioners as they plan lessons to include think-alouds.
This resource requires the following modification to explicitly target listening comprehension: shift the avenue of critical thinking from writing to discussion (i.e., instead of students writing they should discuss).
